Assault in the Workplace:
Protocol for OSSTF/FEESO Members after an assault in the workplace:
  1. Immediately report the incident to the administration AND the police
  2. Seek medical attention, if necessary
  3. Notify your OSSTF/FEESO Health & Safety Officer (Joe Lamoureux) and Bargaining Unit President (Jen Hare)
  4. Document what took place before, during, and after the assault (include names of witnesses)
  5. Fill out Board incident reports (see FORMS tab)
  6. Have administration file a FORM 7 with the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) to claim workers' compensation, and member needs to complete FORM 6 found at www.wsib.on.ca
  7. When calling in to APPLY TO EDUCATION for workplace related injury/illness, use code 4 with prior approval

When can you refuse unsafe work?

The Occupational Health and Safety Act gives most workers the right to refuse work if the physical conditions of the workplace are likely to endanger them [Section 43(3)(b)], You must make sure that your students are in a safe place before going to the administration.  https://www.osstf.on.ca/services/health-safety/information-bulletins/right-to-refuse-work-for-teacher-members-only.aspx
